Research Centre for Aramaic Studies

The Research Centre for Aramaic Studies is concerned with all aspects of the social life of the Arameans (i.e. Syrians or Syrian Christians), both in their region of origin and in the diaspora. These include, in particular, language, literature, art, history, sociology and migration, with special emphasis on recent experiences of diaspora.

The Research Centre pursues this both through its own research, teaching and publication of scholarly work and by initiating, coordinating and organising collaboration between domestic and international universities, institutions and professionals, as well as their research projects and courses in the field of Aramaic studies.

Through its work, the Centre aims both to contribute to a better understanding of religious diversity in the Middle East within academia and society and to support the integration of Arameans in Germany, while ultimately establishing Aramaic studies as a recognised field of research in Germany.
